PD@Pen

Keeping a record of staff PD online has a number of advantages. One is that staff with training in a particular area can be easily identified. Another, links to relevant sites and information built into a summary provide easy access for others. A forum could be used to seek answers to specific questions, and for extreme enthusiasts live chat could provide answers to questions that couldn't wait. In addition, developing social networking skills is itself valuable professional development. The forum can be used to ask a general question in the hope for an answer. "Groups" could be used to show staff with particular qualifications eg. Level 2 First Aid, Surf Bronze, and alerts used to notify others in the group when updates were available.

So welcome to PD@Pen and please tell others in the school community about the opportunity it provides to draw on our collective wealth of professional knowledge and experience.

During the first three days of the school year in 2010, independent and public sector teachers had three pupil free days. Using Elluminate software, through… Continue

Profile Pics 2

Apologies. It appears that since I wrote the Profile Pic instructions, the look of the blog may have changed. I believe you now need to click on "My Page" at the top of the screen. You should see a link to add or edit your photo on the left there somewhere. Melinda, I look forward to your pic changing from a silhouette sometime very soon....

Web 2 Overload

Today Jennyann North and I attended the second of five AISV workshops designed to train teachers in the effective use of Web 2 technologies. Exploring these technologies elicits the wow factor time and time again. I have experienced it three times today even though I have been experimenting with Web 2 for years. They just keep getting better. This can lead to a feeling of being left behind but it doesn't need to. As they get better they also get easier. As more people use them there are more soc… Continue
